A text or email mentions a refund you’re owed, a debt, or a suspended account — with a link to “log in” or claim. Government-branded scams are extremely common. Here’s how to tell.
⚠️ Example of a scam message“myGov: You are eligible for a $215.40 tax refund. Complete your claim here: mygov-au-refund[.]com”
Show it the message and it’ll tell you honestly whether it looks like a scam, and exactly what to do. Free, calm, and there’s a real person — me — behind it if you’re still unsure.
No. Official myGov, ATO and Centrelink messages will never include a link to sign in. Always reach your account by typing my.gov.au yourself or opening the official app.
